Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) today released a statement regarding his vote against compromise legislation:

“I was never in favor of shutting down the government, and in fact I voted three times against shutting it down. Over the last sixteen days, I have put forward a plan and voted multiple times to reopen areas of the government. While today’s legislation may be a ‘way out’ it is far from a ‘way forward.’ This bill puts us on course to add over half a trillion dollars to our national debt and fails to address the ominous cloud of potential furlough and job loss that our defense civilians will face in 2014. I strongly agree with former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta that this bill continues the dangerous dismantling of our national defense. I cannot vote for a tomorrow that looks just like today.”
