Forbes: Crew of the Eisenhower Represents Best of America
Washington, D.C., July 3, 2013

Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04), Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on the return of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) following a 10-month deployment:

“The men and women of the Eisenhower have spent ten of the last twelve months away from the families they love and the country they selflessly serve. After returning home for repairs last Christmas, the ship deployed again shortly thereafter and has spent an additional four months in the Middle East. Unfortunately, as our Navy shrinks further and sequestration continues to damage our military, tours of this length will become even more common and the strain on our sailors will continue. The sailors who we ask to undertake these difficult and dangerous missions, far from home and away from their loved ones, are truly the best of this country. Every American owes them a debt of gratitude that will never truly be repaid.”
