Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives' failure to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which he supported:

"Government is the only entity in America that believes spending more money will solve a spending problem.  The last several years of stimulus spending have shown that this is simply not true.  The political finger-pointing and dysfunction that have prevented Washington from meaningfully addressing our nation's spending problem demonstrate the need for a constitutional solution that provides an inflexible framework to end our nation's addiction to spending.  A balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, which has been implemented in most states, is a vital step to regain our fiscal footing; it is my hope that the House will approve a similar measure in the near future to address our ever-rising $15 trillion debt."
