Rep. Randy Forbes Defends Memorial Crosses at Camp Pendleton
Posted by The Congressional Prayer Caucus | April 17, 2012

Rep. Randy Forbes, Founder and Co-Chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, was featured on the Mike Huckabee radio show today discussing the controversy surrounding two memorial crosses at Camp Pendleton in California.  The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers (MAFF) is threatening to file a lawsuit if the crosses are not removed from the military base, where they sit atop a hill as a memorial to fallen service members.  The group asserts that the presence of the crosses on federal land is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion, regardless of the fact that crosses are widely recognized as a symbol honoring the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform.  Reports indicate that “the commandant of the Marines is expected to rule on the cross controversy any day.”

According to Rep. Forbes, “If they’re successful in getting these crosses taken down at Camp Pendleton, there’s absolutely no reason that the crosses in Arlington Cemetery would be allowed to stay.”  He explained that these groups wish to purge the public square of such patriotic symbols, regardless of their context.

A group of Marines carried a cross to the top of a hillside at the military base, placing it as a memorial to their fallen comrades.  The cross replaced a similar memorial that had burned in a wild fire a few years before.  Two crosses now reside at the spot, and as the wife of one fallen Marine explained, “It’s not a religious spot at all, it’s a place for the Marines to grieve and to grow to let go of their burdens of what they had in their soul, so they can go back down that hill and back into battle and put their own lives on the line.”

The situation at Camp Pendleton highlights the confusion surrounding Establishment Clause jurisprudence, which Justice Thomas recently said was “in shambles.”  Members of the Prayer Caucus will continue working to ensure that memorials to our nation’s veterans are not dismantled and stripped of symbols that honor their service and their sacrifice.  Listen to Rep. Forbes’ interview here.

It's a shame that members of the military are again and again made to fight for their rights as well as for their country.

A huge majority iof our founding fathers were Confessed Christians. The constitution is presently our form of Government and it has been some 230 years. The framers not only fought for our liberty but sacrificed everything having lost family, their lives , their fortune . They built our federal buildings with paintings , placks, and bible scripture on the buildings. We have been able to survive and have our liberty only due to God's sovernity and love for this christian nation. I thank God for our Forfathers that although they were outnumbered, not organized, nor did they have the equiptment to defend but through prayer to Almighty God we have our freedom .

I am deeply saddened that yet again we have to face a situation like this. It appears that these groups want to wipe out all evidence of Christianity from our planet. What about my right to have these things in my world? What about the rights of all christians? Why is it that some radical atheist group thinks their rights outweigh ours? If anything they should be concentrating on where they will be spending eternity and let the Marines have their place of comfort. It's not hurting anyone and has offered many solice and peace.

How long are we the majority going to allow a few in the minority to rule our lives and try to take away the things that are dear to us? Is this the way other countries turned into third world countries ruled by dictators and thugs? I know we all believe in the rule of law but at some point we have to define which rules and laws are uncontitutional and remove them from our government before we lose everything.

Let us all pray that the cross is not removed. God Bless the USA!

When on earth are we going to stop being afraid to cross over the Eu--phra--tes River? Crazy Linda is here to give you another FREE Bible Lesson about this Book of LIFE called the Bible. Sometimes we just don't understand what we are reading because we won't look at LIFE. River is water--river is a person or thing that rives. Paul says to rightly divide the WORD of GOD. Eu--phra--tes River. Say it slowly--Look at the WORD. EU (you) PHRA (afraid) tes (these). The truth is--everyone is afraid of these people and their threatening lawsuit letters. River is a person or thing that rives. Rive means to tear apart; rend; to split; cleave; to break or dismay (the heart, spirit, etc). These people are rivers--troublemakers. There is no logical reason for them to want to take this cross down and cause Spiritual Oppression amongst our military soldiers. They are trying to CAUSE DIVISION. They are instigating trouble. It is all in the ATTACK PLANS. They want us to be AFRAID of them. So I ask you--are you afraid of these rivers? When are WE going to CROSS OVER these EU--PHRA--TES RIVERS and stand up to these RIVERS who are trying to Spiritually oppress us and say you people don't scare us at all. Put your money where your mouth is. Go ahead and sue! Maybe this is really Gods Plan. Did we ever think that this is Gods doings? Is God using THEIR POWER to bring to pass HIS POWER so that our First Amendment can be intrepreted correctly? The Godless Establishment Clause Intrepretation has indeed caused much turmoil and confussion. They say that our Amendments are our Bill of Rights. So what was the First amendment amending? Amend is to correct--to improve--to remove the faults of--to change or revise, especially a legislative BILL or law. 16. That religion, or the DUTY which we owe to our CREATOR, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence; and therefore all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the MUTUAL DUTY of all to practice Christian forbearance, love, and charity, towards each other. Compare this to our First Amendment. This was the VIRGINIA BILL OF RIGHTS. Our First Amendment is for ALL STATES. Congress shall make NO LAW respecting an ESTABLISHMENT OF religion OR prohibit the free exercise thereof OR abridging the freedom of speech OR of the press OR the right of the people to PEACEABLY assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. HERE IS YOUR LIST OF THINGS WHICH ESTABLISH RELIGION. Free Speech--Free Religious Press--Peaceably Assembling. One can not establish religion unless one can speak the WORD--read the WORD or hear the WORD. Now is the time for all of us to start sending in our PETITIONS to our Government! Let us petition the Government--not the courts! God Bless America.

Congress look at this--I have been trying to PROVE that our First Amendment is only talking about RElIGION; belief in a Supreme Being. This Virginia Resolution helps us understand FREEDOM OF THE PRESS--It is NOT talking about a printing press; IT IS THE CONSCIENCE PRESS. It is the freedom to PRESS UPON SOMEONES MIND. Look closely Congress--- This press is one of our ESSENTIAL rights which no one can take away from us. We MUST be able to press upon our Representatives MINDS what We the People Want. They are working for US, the People. We hire them when we elect them; and we fire them when we elect someone else to take their place. Religion is established in the MIND of a person. Can we rightly divide what we are reading in our First Amendment? This First Amendment is talking about the religious PRESS! The fundemental nature of religion is to go tell somwone else what God did for you. It is natural to talk about someone whom you love, I LOVE GOD!! It is my ESSENTIAL RIGHT to spread the WORD of God. Is the printing press an ESSENTIAL RIGHT? Is the NEWS an ESSENTIAL RIGHT? Religion, or the LIBERTY OF CONSCIENCE and the LIBERTY OF THE CONSCIENCE PRESS, is ESSENTIAL to our country or it would not have been ANNEXED into our United States Constitution. Read this--Some things are ESSENTIAL to our lives, our happiness, and our good fortune. We are guarenteed ESSENTIAL RIGHTS. Our religion is ESSENTIAL to our lives and to the good of our country. Here is the article that explains "press" for us. That this state having by its Convention, which ratified the federal Constitution, expressly declared, that among other ESSENTIAL rights, "the Liberty of Conscience and of the PRESS cannot be cancelled, abridged, restrained, or modified BY ANY AUTHORITY of the United States," and from its EXTREME ANXIETY to guard THESE RIGHTS from EVERY POSSIBLE ATTACK of sophistry or ambition, having with other states, recommended an amendment for that purpose, which amendment was, in due time, ANNEXED TO the Constitution; it would mark a reproachable inconsistency, and criminal degeneracy, if an indifference were now shewn, to the most palpable violation of one of the Rights, thus declared and secured; and to the establishment of a precedent which may be fatal to the other. Conscience and press go together--this is not a printing press. It is not a news paper. It IS pressing upon a mind--it is to act on with steady force or weight, push steadly against; squeeze. The Book of Revelations says, "SEAL IT IN THEIR FOREHEADS"--This First Amendment gives us our ESSENTIAL RIGHTS OF RELIGION. Congress shall make NO LAW respecting any of our ESSENTIAL RIGHTS needed to establish religion; belief in God. The free exercise or MOVEMENT of religion are ESSENTIAL--Freedom of speech is ESSENTIAL--Freedom of the conscience press is ESSENTIAL--and freedom to peaceably assemble is ESSENTIAL to establishing religion; belief in Almight God, or anything else in this United States of America.

Things of this nature should sadden every American and send every Christian to their knees. The cross humbly shows the love and sacrifice these men and women have given to our country. The cross does represent the unltimate sacrifice of our Lord. The cross is freedom. Why would anyone want to remove the freedom we have battled so hard for?! The Air Force is removing the hope of our Nation that we so much need now. With all these decisions the Air Force is making, it would be interesting to see in a (real) pole how things are looking on the inside. How many people have become discouragered and hopeless as a result of their poor choices. As for these Atheist, there really is no such thing, for two good reasons. One, put them on a sinking ship in shark littered waters and listen to whom they call. Second, when people claim this for them selves they are really just saying they can't face who they are. For this I am truly sorry for them.

Good ole Thomas Jefferson--Second Inaugural Speech really explains to us that we don't own this land; IT IS GODS PROVIDENCE or property. I shall now enter on the duties to which my fellow citizens have again called me, and shall proceed in the spirit of those principles which THEY have approved. I fear not that any motives of interest may lead me astray; I am sensible of no passion which could seduce me knowingly from the path of justice; but the weakness of human nature, and the limits of my own understanding, will produce ERRORS OF JUDGMENT sometimes INJURIOUS to your interests. I shall need, therefore, all the indulgence I have heretofore experienced -- the want of it will certainly not lessen with increasing years. I shall NEED, TOO, the FAVOR of that Being in whose hands WE ARE, who led our forefathers, AS Israel of old, from their native land, and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; WHO HAS COVERED our infancy with HIS PROVIDENCE, and our riper years with HIS WISDOM AND POWER; and to whose GOODNESS I ask you TO JOIN WITH ME IN SUPPLICATIONS, that HE will so enlighten the MINDS OF YOUR servants, GUIDE THEIR COUNCILS, and PROSPER THEIR MEASURES, that whatsoever THEY do, shall result in YOUR GOOD, and shall SECURE TO YOU the peace, friendship, and approbation of all nations. Oh my God!!! Is Thomas Jefferson asking us to have a National Day of PRAYER or SUPPLICATIONS? Is he looking for GODS FAVOR?? Does he want us to PRAY for GOD to ENLIGHTEN the MINDS of our servants (OUR REPRESENTATIVES who are OUR SERVANTS in government)? Does he want us to PRAY that GOD will GUIDE their COUNCILS and PROSPER our servants MEASURES? If GOD had of GUIDED THEIR COUNCILS while intrepreting the establishment clause would WE be in this MESS today? Would WE be taking the CROSSES off of GODS LAND that our Military is freely using? Would our SERVANTS be allowing the FFRF to put up their Winter Solstice Sign "THERE IS NO GOD"? HELL NO!!! Now THIS is the man who believed IN THE BIBLE AND GOD. How could one look at Thomas Jeffersons own words here and say that he ERECTED a WALL OF SEPERATION between church and state? He did put up a wall of seperation alright. The wall was to STOP the Atheist from trying to INFLUENCE the MINDS of others to believe there IS NO GOD! Someone produced an ERROR OF JUDGMENT in intrepreting this GODLESS ESTABLISHMENT CLAUSE. Now our SERVANTS have got to correct this "ERROR OF JUDGMENT"! So how do we correct this "POLITICAL" Error of Judgment? We are not just a Christian Nation--WE ARE A GOD BELIEVING NATION who trusts and believes that the LOVING SPIRIT of GOD will GUIDE US and GUIDE OUR SERVANTS or Representatives MINDS into making virteous, moral and righteous decisions and laws according to GODS LAWS and the PROMISES OF GOD. Thomas Jefferson wanted us to reach out to God for help. He did not believe in CHURCHES--He believed IN the POWER OF GOD. Congress step in and stop this atheist military organization from removing the CROSS off of the LAND THAT BELONGS TO GOD. It is YOUR DUTY which YOU owe to US as our servants to protect our DIVINE PROVIDENCE--the DIVINE PROVIDENCE OF GOD!

William Harrison 1841---There is no part of the means placed in the hands of the Executive which might be used with greater effect for UNHALLOWED PURPOSES than the CONTROL OF THE PUBLIC PRESS. The MAXIM which our ancestors derived from the mother country that "the freedom of the PRESS is the great bulwark of civil and RELIGIOUS liberty" is one of the MOST PRECIOUS legacies which they have left us. We have learned, too, from our own as well as the experience of other countries, that golden shackles, by whomsoever or by whatever pretense imposed, are as fatal to it as the iron bonds of despotism. The PRESSES in the NECESSARY EMPLOYMENT of the Government should NEVER be used "to CLEAR the guilty or to VARNISH crime." A decent and manly examination of the ACTS of the Government should be not only tolerated, but encouraged. PUBLIC PRESS--SEAL IT IN THEIR FOREHEADS--our Constitution gives us Freedom of RELIGION and freedom of the PUBLIC PRESS. That CROSS is one of the objects used to help the PUBLIC PRESS. When one looks at the cross it leaves an impression of ones mind. John Adams in 1780, quite explicitly states what our forefathers believed, in Article III of the Declaration of Rights: As the happiness of a people, and the GOOD ORDER AND PRESERVATION of civil government, ESSENTIALLY DEPEND ON PIETY, RELIGION, AND MORALITY, ... the LEGISLATURE SHALL, from time to time, AUTHORIZE AND REQUIRE, the several towns, parishes, precincts, AND OTHER BODIES POLITIC, or religious societies, to make suitable PROVISION, at their own expense, for the INSTITUTION of the PUBLIC WORSHIP OFGOD, and for the support and maintenance of PUBLIC Protestant TEACHERS of piety, religion and morality, in ALL CASES where such provision SHALL NOT BE MADE voluntarily.

Taken from Avalon Project Federalists paper #84--I go further, and affirm that bills of rights, in the sense and to the extent in which they are contended for, are not only UNNECESSARY in the proposed Constitution, but would even be DANGEROUS. Now read this people because this IS WHAT HAS HAPPENED in our country today regarding an establishment of religion.) They would contain various exceptions to POWERS NOTgranted; (Congress shall make NO LAW--no power granted by our Constitution) and, on this very account, would afford a colorable pretext to CLAIM more than were granted. For why declare that things shall NOT be done which there is NO POWER to do? Why, for instance, should it be said that the LIBERTY OF THE PRESS shall not be restrained, when NO POWER IS GIVEN by which RESTRICTIONS may be imposed?( RESTRICTIONS are being put on religious freedom and liberty--the COURTS are restricting us from putting up a cross on public lands; they are restricting us from having a Bible in the class rooms of schools--they are restricting us from hireing only religious teachers in religious schools and colleges--they are restricting us from having public prayer in schools; council meetings etc. What gives them the POWER to do this?) I will not contend that such a provision would confer a REGULATING POWER ; but it is evident that it would furnish, to men disposed to USURP, a plausible pretense FOR CLAIMING THAT POWER. They might urge with a semblance of reason, that the Constitution ought not to be charged with the absurdity of providing against the abuse of an authority WHICH WAS NOT GIVEN, and that the provision against RESTRAINING THE LIBERTY OF THE PRESS afforded a clear implication, that a power to PRESCRIBE PROPER REGULATIONS concerning it was intended to be vested in the national government. This may serve as a specimen of the numerous handles which would be given to the DOCTRINE OF CONSTRUCTIVE POWERS, by the indulgence of an injudicious ZEAL for bills of rights.

FFRF's next PLAN OF ATTACK as quoted off of their web--site. Lets start a Spirit of REBELLION --These people are suppose to be a 501C3 NON PROFIT EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION. Do they have FREEDOM of the conscience PRESS to start a REBELLION as they say? Isn't this SPIRITUAL TYRANNY?? Spiritual rebellion comes first; then comes the ARMED REBELLION. One must use the conscience PRESS first. Seal it in our young peoples minds to REBEL then they will fight for what they believe in. These RELIGIOUS attacks are being planned. FFRF says, "Fed up with the annual government-sponsored National Day of Prayer? Indignant that your president, your governor, perhaps even your mayor, county executive . . . and dogcatcher, are exhorting you to pray, to set aside an entire day for prayer? Congress has designated the first Thursday in May "as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals." Join the Freedom From Religion Foundation in a Facebook REBELLION! Choose one of FFRF’s two anti-National Day of Prayer graphic banners as your cover photo this week for your Facebook timeline page (the latest version of Facebook, a large horizontal image of your choice). Don't we have LAWS against any FORM of PLANNED REBELLION? Why do they used this ATTACK word "REBELLION"? Are they trying to help keep peace in this country or are they trying to STIR up TROUBLES for our country?

05/02/12 I feel it is the most important factor of any country to have God as the highest form of authority in practice in policies and implementations of law and freedoms to all humans. Here is why I make the state noted in the header of this particular email: If America were to review a comparrison to other countries we the people would notice that any country that does not have God is a country that failes in its policies and protections to human rights and thus practices of law and order within that society. Godless countries, never make a country that has a effective, human rights, nor ecomonic sucesses. If you review England and america in a comparrison, one could notice that they Both have God as a centeral point of Power to review from ethical proceedural practices, and thus monumental structures such as crosses, or the ten commandements such as the us supreme court wall, remind Americans that GOd is the power that we should practice in our socierty. England, as well, has these practices. However, if you look at communism, it has the opposite effects, and use brain washing that keeps the human mind and soul in a dark place of society, and thus soical injustices effect that country as a whole. Russian, re-established their churches, when the cold war ended and thus established a new thinking that only GOd may provide to any country. Also if you read a book written by "Elmer Townsen" He has demonstrated, satistical values in revials on the effect of crime in society in places such as the Ireland, to prove that the Power of Gods word does effective society, with great promise of values and practices in humanity. If America, regress in our thinking as to negating the beauty of How God effects a Nation, then America needs to re-evaluate how the consistution was formulated to began with, and make a special attentions to the facts of how God influences men and woman, thus our icons in our nations, such as the Cross, would not be an issue, because we as a nation, would feel confident that we need those symoblic icons to remind us that God is in controll. Which makes all human safe within a country. I hope this writting help in your concerens, Sincerely, Helene Anderson-Strayer
