Members of the Prayer Caucus Defend Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial at Supreme Court

Members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus joined the American Center for Law and Justice in submitting an amicus curiae brief to the Supreme Court, defending the presence of a cross at the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial in San Diego, California.  The brief urges the Supreme Court to take up the case and reverse a decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that held the cross’s presence at the memorial is unconstitutional.  A cross was first placed at the memorial in 1913, and its presence has been the subject of litigation for a number of years.  Congress has tried repeatedly to preserve the memorial, including successfully enacting a law that brought the memorial into federal ownership.  Nevertheless, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit held that because a cross is included in the memorial, the federal government’s ownership of the location violates the Constitution.  Members of the Prayer Caucus will continue working to ensure that memorials to our nation’s veterans are not dismantled and stripped of symbols that honor their service.

    It has been said that "the past is what actually happened" and that "history is what man recorded". There was a time when America's Past and America's History were in alignment. Revisionists have ruthlessly removed the presence of God from America's classroom history books. No one can remove God's presence from America's Past. I pray that men on women of integrity stand up and make themselves heard, that we need God's presence in our Country today. We need Him in our government. We need Him in our schools. We need Him in our daily lives.

    An atheist group is suing to have a statue of Jesus – a war memorial erected by World War II heroes on a mountain in Montana that has stood for six decades – removed from land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. This memorial was erected as a replica of statutes they saw fighting for freedom across Europe – symbols that gave them hope. Yet, this atheist group calls this historic memorial “a ruse and a sham.” Well I bet very few if any of the atheists where in foxholes because it has been said men in foxholes have a different prespective and look for help from God. What gets me this issue is 60 year old and now it offends! So many issues that have become issues in the last couple of decades where in place for hundred or two hundred years and there was no problem! But it seems that so liberal judges over the last two or three decades go to bed and wake up one morning and are offended and/or find new rights according to the Constitiution. I thought well it use to be in the Courts that precedent carried all the weight but today it is how some person or minority group feels that carries the weight.

    First of all, thank you for working towards preserving the most important element of our nation's heritage. We are very quickly forgetting what lead to the greatness of our country. Secondly, I think it's important for us to remember all aspects of our nations history, both good and bad. We are quickly editing out history to omit any "Christian" influence mostly because of "political correctness" and not wanting to offend others. I can't say that Christians have been blameless in trying to prevent the loss of our rich heritage. Quick tongues and powerplays on the part of our "Christian" leaders have done little to save face in the public's eye of what a "Christian" nation should look like. I do sincerely hope those who are truly wanting to protect our "religious freedom" and "separation of church and state" our doing so out of an honest heart and not from a deeper evil, but there is only One who can tell and will in due time set all things right. In the meantime, we are positioned that we will first love then serve then stand firm for those principles we have been called to live by and protect. Thank you for protecting and standing for those sacred symbols and principles which helped to make us into a great nation.     And while we protect the rights of non-christians, it is OK to offend Christians? For those not sure, check their history;. this whole country was founded on religious freedom, lead predominately by God-fearing men of various Christian denominations.     It is outrageous that our courts cannot recognize that many who gave their lives did so in the assurance of the cross and that it is merely a sign that honors the faith in which they rested. Thank you for being their voice and a compensation for the shame they would sense at the degradation of their sacrifice by those who no longer value the reason for their service.

    I believe those who are remembered by this monument were, for the most part, believers in the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. It is a rememberanc of brave soldiers and should no be damaged by removing the cross.

    I am glad that there are members of Congress that still hold to the true Christian beliefs of this nations founding. My true desire would be for Congress to somehow remove all of the judges that sit on the ninth circuit. I don't care if it is done by impeachment or by arrest but it is time those radical anti American judges were fired.     Of which "religious heritage" is Mr. Forbes writing? The heritage of Plymouth or Massachusetts Bay Colonies which prohibited worship except as they prescribed? Or the more open situation in Rhode island that served as a haven for outcasts from both of those other colonies and was the site of the oldest Jewish synagogue in the country? The point is that the First Amendment tells gov't to stay out of religious matters. In this case it seems that a portion of our House of Representatives wants to wade in in favor of the Christian part of our religious heritage.

    Why does it seem there is such a great effort to remove and/or destroy history and our heritage? The constitution is our standard for the preservation of our freedom ... which includes our choice of life style, residence, profession and worship or lack thereof. I think Kirk Cameron made a good statement when he was ridiculed for his comment to Piers Morgan regarding homosexuality ... tolerance is a two-way street. Can you imagine destroying Michangelo's statue of David because he was a Jew? Or removing the last supper from the chapel ceiling? Or breaking down Stonehenge because one disagrees with the beliefs of the Druids? If contemporary art can protect the existence of a picture representing Christ in a bottle of urine in spite of its repulsiveness, why is there even the question of the cross, which is a symbol of multiple religions ... not just one?

    I applaud our congressman, Randy Forbes, for his dedication to God's teachings. I shall never understand why anyone in authority, inclusive of the nine US Supreme Court judges, would want to dismantle everything related to our Lord. Moreover, can't people in power see that taking God out of the schools has had a negative impact on children, especially in an economy where both parents must work to make ends meet these days and, as a result, kids end up raising each other on the streets in many cases. Again, thank goodness for people like Randy Forbes, a true man of God.

    Please save the cross.. At the very least the cross was a symbol that was important to the people who erected the memorial and it was an intimate part of the veterans for whom it was erected. To change that would be desecrating the moral, religious, and nationalistic intent of the memorial in the first place. Why would anyone want to do THAT? On a going forward basis, even though the cross is an intrical part of my life, I can understand that there are many religious symbols that are sacred to others and to put them on national monuments should be considered carefully, but not denied totatly.

    The moneument needs to be left there. Some people get all upset with the religious symbols being in public view, as they have been since this country started...WELL, I am upset that the symbols are being taken down, but nobody seems to want to listen to that!

    Thank you for taking a stand against those who want to take our heritage away. In 1913 those who erected this Memorial believed the cross was an important symbol and worthy to be part of that Memorial. What right do we have now to dishonor that tribute by changing it in any way, shape or form?

    We must never turn our back on our religious heritage. We were founded on the belief of one God, and Christian principles. As fellow Americans, we should not bow down to a minority of people that want to constantly endanger our beliefs and change our history. First I would like you to Google search "Founding Fathers" and actually read and understand what these historic, judicial, teaching, inventing, scientific and spiritual gentelmen had in mind for a nation that was to live together in law, love and peace. Please UNDERSTAND that this "Majority of the people say" has been VIOLATED not only in your court and the seat you sit in, but all the way to this "President" currently in office. I don't even want to start and say that the American way of "Majority rule" has not been getting the last say, but it sadly has. Why are you people, less that 1/2 percent of the American people, telling us what the majority should live by when we already voted in the majority. AND YOU REVERSE OUR MAJORITY DECISION!!!!!! Those soldiers on federal land or not have this beautiful way to honor their ultimate sacrafice they paid and their country they fight for! If any cross offends them about what our country stands for, THEN DON'T LOOK, JUST TURN AND LEAVE; SIMPLE!!!!!     I am certain the veterans who offered up their lives for the cause of freedom would rise up again, if they could, to lead the battle for freedom of expression and the display of an icon that identifies that expression. The cross after all was once a government sign. The cross was used as a means of torture and death.,their capital punishment. The religious connotation is only seen by Christians. So, if you are a Christian, you are not offended. If you are an athiest then think of it as a simple of government authority.

    It is annoying to know there are people who begrudge respect for our service men and women. I have relatives who fought for their beliefs as far back as the Revolutionary War. One of my grandfathers was wounded in World War I. I have a flag with 48 stars that draped my uncle's casket as a result of his death in World War II (Battle of the Bulge). I also have the flag that draped my father's casket, a World War II veteran. My brother was killed in Germany while serving in the Army in 1969. There is a vacant spot, an empty flag display case, that will be filled when breath leaves my body. I retired from the U.S. Air Force. I do not want memorials maintained for my honor but those who have gone before me. These memorial are factual and need to remain as reminders for those who have not sacrificed. I am thankful and prayerful that my son and grandchildren do not have to continue this heritage unless absolutely necessary TO DEFEND the CONSTITUTION of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA.     The Ninth Circuit Court is made up of people who are not qualified to be judges, They do not respect the United States Consitution, and believe wrongly it is a living document that can be interpreted according to their reasoning and not as it is clearly written. The Supreme Court should overturn their erroneous ruling. The cross shows respect for those who sacrificed so much (some their lives) for the freedoms that we enjoy as a people. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals should be eliminated; they serve only in their own interests and do up hold the rule of law and the interests of this great nation.

We Christians must not be ashamed of our God, we must be bold in our faith, and stand up for what is right, pure, true, and good. As a retired vet with 23 years of honorable service, I salute you Sir! I don't know about others, but It would be my honor to have a symbol of God on my headstone, or residing in a place near where my mortal body is finally laid to rest. I don't see why some people find this offensive enough to feel the need to get rid of this symbol "the Cross". I see offensive things all the time in this God forsaken world, I don't go on a rampage to get the things that offend me torn down or taken off the TV, or out of magazines. I simply don't look at them, outta sight, outta mind. I find it ludicrous that a minority of people feel justified in there efforts to wipe God off the face of our planet, yet feel that the things they hold dear, yet are offensive to others shouldn't be placed under the same scrutiny, how is this just?     Dear Congressman Forbes and all members of the Prayer Caucus, I can't thank you enough for taking a stand for our nation's Godly heritage and the respect that you show for the members of our military, past and present. You've probably heard of David Barton with WallBuilders.com, but if you haven't, I very strongly recommend that you look at his website and read about him... and... to also recommend to your colleagues to do the same. David is not only a true American patriot, he is also an expert on our nation's founding and founders, and a staunch defender of Truth. His book, "Original Intent: The Courts, The Constitution, and Religion," is in my opinion a MUST-READ for every person who loves our nation and cherishes his/her freedom. Especially, is it absolutely CRUCIAL for the younger generation to get and read this book. Again, I thank you... and EVERY MEMBER of the Prayer Caucus... for all that you do to fight the good fight, and to stand up against the traitors who now hold our nation's highest offices.     This cross is a memorial to our Veterans and my husband was a veteran, Our veterans lost their lives to protect other countries and our country,. They were Christians and we are still a Christian Nation. GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY AND OUR MILITARY. GOD BLESS YOU! Obama is trying to take over this country and make it his "COUNTRY". Why is the Democrat and Republican Congress stopping Obama on all these issues that he is trying to turn our country into Muslim country, Muslim laws!     Our country was founded on Christianity. The US must continue and abide by our founding fathers desire for a free and christian nation. We the people want our government to stop letting the atheist, muslim and any other form of nationality, tell our congressmen how to run this goverment. We should have education teaching children the true founding of the country and require all high school and college students to take a class on the Constitution.     Putting the subject property under Federal ownership or control was a HUGE mistake, and may well cost the case. The First Ammendment states: CONGRESS shall make no law establishing a religion....... while it surely is a huge stretch to say that allowing the presence of a simple cross is "establishing a religion", with the agenda driven whackjobs out there, this COULD be made to stick... and obviously has, given the überal liberal Ninth Circuit court's history and bent. Had the property never been addressed by CONGRESS, then a defense to the attack would be simple, and airtight, so much so that even the nine blackrobed lawmakers would have to work overtime to figure out how CONGRESS made any law whatever relating to this. Now the congress have done, the die is cast... best is to have Congress make another law repealing the former one. As long as it was private, or even state or county property, the presence of the cross was NOT in result of CONGRESS making any law. THIS is the proper defense to the matter. The Supreme Court erred seriously when "outlawing" the cross memorials for State Troopers who lost their lives in service in Utah. CONGRESS never had aught to do with the presence of those crosses, therefor no violation of the First Ammendment occurred. Yet the Supremes said it did..... those guys need brought back into line. How about a move to remove some for malfeasance? Could be done... but the Mt,. Soledad cross, now under Federal control, is another matter. The Supremes could well find against it, and rightly so. Have the CONGRESS divest the federal government of the property/control immediately, thus mooting theb lawsuit.

    I sincerely believe these memorials should remain in tact. I farther believe every ACLU member should be asked to leave the country if not willingly then by force. We do not take care of veterans in this country, Veterans like myself fighting for Agent Orange benefits since 1977 and still being turned down because of bastards in the Veterans Administration being paid incentives to deny us our benefits and thereby holding the U.S. Government unaccountable. The same goes for my exposure to poison drinking water at Camp Lejuene, you employ bastards that make decisions based on cover up. I am 65 years old, and only by God's grace I am still alive, hurting like hell and in pain every second of every day. Yet let some bastard from the ACLU make a remark and you jump to fulfill their every demand. This is not the America I once was willing to give my life for not the America my peers died for.

    It is my opinion that "separation of church and state" has been totally blown out of proportion. History is being dismantled, as Mrs. Obama has said. To willfully destroy something that means so much to so many people is ridiculous. This cross was placed in 1913 and hasn't hurt one person. I believe that if people would really read the Constitution they would understand how twisted it is being interpreted. Matter of fact, there is no interpretation. There is no mystery to the Constitution. The real matters of the the people need to be tended to. Does it really matter who owns this memorial? Somebody needs some REAL work to do. Please continue your fight. This affects our future, and for many reasons.

    It's a sad day when people no longer honor the scarifices made by the brave men and women that defend our country and feel it necessary to attack century old memorials that have been erected to commemorate them. I oppose any effort by any such special interest group, for selfish motives, to attempt to tamper with, remove, or desecrate in any way any veterans' memorial or burial site, including the American flag. Manipulation of judicial processes for this purpose is particularly heinous. Now is the time when I implore to all Americans, especially legislators, to initiate a call for federal protection of the American flag and war veterans' memorials via Constitutional amendment. Post haste. Lastly, I would be remiss not to commend Congressman Forbes' indefatigable efforts to preserve America's heritage during these uncertain times. Heroes appear in various places and take different forms; sometimes in full combat gear; occasionally within the folds of Congress.

    Mr. Forbes, Honoring our veterans is very important. As is preserving our heritage and our history. However, this Memorial no matter how innocent it may seem is clearly sectarian in nature and, as such, is wholly unconstitutional. And it makes no difference whether it's been up for a week or a century or even if it has gone unchallenged up to now. Did you know that most of the founding Fathers were deists? That is, the believed in the idea of a creator god, but not one that intervenes in the world and answers prayers. Jefferson and many of the others were, therefore, not Christians (in the sense that you are). Any mix like this of religion and politics is bound to be divisive, and that's why the Supreme Court continually rules in favor of keeping church and state matters separate. I would respectfully suggest that you remain focused on issues pertaining to your district... that is a district literally on the other side of the continent from where Mount Soledad is.

    It just goes to the show you the days that we are living in. This should be a total non issue. As the nations leaders, the Congress and the President and indeed the judiciary should have a deep and historic understanding of the founding documents and the events leading up to the forming of our nation. We are a Judeo-Christian nation where there will be no established religion in government but that all religions may be freely practiced. Our founders had no intention of banning a religious symbol form the "public square". Sad that the citizens have a greater understanding than those who have said, I can lead you. Tell your fellow Congressmen and Senators that they will be measured by how they used their power when they had it, not how long they were able to hold on to it.

    The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has continually been a thorn in the side of what is right. They have no reguard what so ever for public opinion or the public vote. They have become the leading spokesman for many causes that are injurious to thei nation. They are not just attacking the memorial. They are attacking the cross. By attacking the cross they are attacking Christianity at it's core and the God we love and serve. God will not be mocked and He will not lose.

    For 99 years this memorial has been a source of pride for many vetrans, a way to remember friends,family and fallen comrads.Just because this memorial contains certain symbols does not mean it is religeous in nature. The Federal Goverment's ownership does not violate the US Constitution any more then owning any other memorial. The Supreme Court must Reverse it's decision. I PRAY the court will do the right thing.

Are we going to have to remove all the crosses from churches and cemeteries before they are happy? How about Obama having crosses covered at places he visits!!     When the "Separation of Church and State" was written into our Constitution by...Thomas Jefferson......it was written for one reason and ONLY one reason. That being, that government shall not interfere in anyway with the Christian Church and or any other religions.... NOT the other way around....period. We as a nation need to again celebrate that the United States of America was founded upon Christian beliefs and values. It was, and can be again the absolute foundation of what made America so great and powerful. Those of non-christian beliefs.......(approx 18% at last poll by ABC news a month ago) should with grace accept the fact we as a nation are Christian based.... Just as I and everyone else should with grace and respect, accept those of non religious beliefs. If one travels and decides to live in another country then discovers their culture is not to their liking...that does not give them the right to change it or it's history. They can always leave. How dare those who prevent Americans from erecting a cross in honor of our fallen. Those same fallen who have given their full measure so we can enjoy free speech, the right to bare arms, right to assemble..... plan and simple OUR liberty. What's next.... removing the 10's of thousands of cross's across America which are planted on "Federal" grounds? I think not. Further more, if the weak kneed spineless judges along with the ACLU don't agree with our history and the christian benefits thereof, then vote them out stop funding and supporting those organizations.

People are finally starting to realize that our Spiritual Heritage that our ansestors left us is about to be taken away. Todays world is very different from yesterdays world. If a new law is made today can we go back and change what was standing yesterday? Today a CROSS that has been standing on government owned lands for hundreds of years is being challenged in our Courts of Law throughout every state in our country because a handfull of people are determined to remove any religious images off of all government owned property.If they succeed in removing this piece of ART, which represents whatever someone wants it to represent, off of government owned property, they can then challenge the Supreme Courts to remove all the Spiritual ART WORK or Spiritual IMAGES which man himself created, formed, made or manufactured out of all government buildings including our government owned WHITE HOUSE. Since when do we consider the WORKS of ART to be an establishment of religion? Now I believe that our Constitution protects this cross. This cross is being put under a "RELIGIOUS TEST". Now our Constitution states, "but NO RELIGIOUS TESTS shall ever be required as a QUALIFICATION to any Office or public TRUST under the United States. In Section 8 of our United States Constitution it says, "The Congress shall have the Power To--Look at that people. Two words are capitalized in the beginning of this sentence; they are Power To. Congress YOU have the Power To...(pay attention to capital letters because these capital letters are being used to put EMPHESIS on certain words)...promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors, the exclusive Right to their Writings and Discoveries. A cross is a USEFUL piece of Art no matter where it is placed. Some wear the cross around their necks which signify that they believe in a Supreme Being--some put it upon a grave to signify the death of their loved ones. As a matter of fact--many people place a cross upon their DEAD DOGS graves. This CROSS stands for whatever someone wants it to stand for. That cross is not any sort, kind, or type of religion. It does not establish religion in any way, shape or form; man does that. Let us all join our Congressmen and women and fight for this cause together. They can't do it alone.

    The idea that the Government cannot own property containing religious symbol is absurd. There are religious symbols on Government buildings in Washington and elsewhere- Moses and the 10 Commandments - for instance. What about the grave markers of thousands of veterans in our national cemeteries? Would this ruling also ban chapels on military bases? These buildings, the Chaplains and the activities they conduct do not represent establishment of religion but rather exemplify the free exercise thereof. Similarly, and even more so, the existence of a cross on Federal property that has been there for nearly 100 years cannot be considered unconstitutional. After all, what part of the constitution has changed since then to make it unconstitutional? Even if our present generation is less religious than previous generations, we must not deny nor try to erase our legitimate heritage.

    I've had the opportunity to visit Mt. Soledad Veterens Memorial. It is wonderful. Too many instances of our national heritage in God , like Mt. Soledad, are being attacked. Why, because those without faith dont like the expressions of faith in God, it causes them discomfort - so they want to dismantle what cause them this discomfort. Jesus Christ is the true God, and that's why He is the only God that receives such treatment from this world. I am proud of Congressman Wright and the National Prayer Caucus, and I stand with them in this defense for our nation and our God.

    Thomas Jefferson’s tells us exactly what our 1st Amendment means. I got this from the Avalon Project--Thomas Jefferson’s Autobiography 1743-1790 including the Declaration of Independence. This is an important document people--read it!! Get EDUCATED--Jefferson himself, is explaining this establishment clause. We don’t need any Supreme Court to interpret the meaning to Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. No law can make us contribute to a church that we don’t belong to or go to--NO LAW. Each and every State Constitution separates church from state when it comes to MONIES collected from ALL people--States monies collected does NOT GOT TO the salaries of ministers--to buy them a house or to by them a piece of land--CHURCH MONEY or donations does that; not our money. This IS the separation of church and state--this is the WALL of separation that Thomas Jefferson spoke about and this IS what the people wanted and got stopped. This explicitly explains the wall of separation and WHY. The first settlers of this colony were Englishmen, loyal subjects to their king and church, and the grant to Sr. Walter Raleigh contained an express Proviso that their laws "should not be against the true Christian faith, now professed in the church of England." As soon as the state of the colony admitted, it was divided into parishes, in each of which was established a minister of the Anglican church, endowed with a FIXED SALARY, in tobacco, a glebe house and land with the other necessary appendages. To meet these expenses ALL INHABITANTS OF THE PARISHES were assessed, whether they WERE or NOT, members of the established church. Towards Quakers who came here they were most cruelly intolerant, driving them from the colony by the severest penalties. In process of time however, other sectarisms were introduced, chiefly of the Presbyterian family; and the established clergy, secure for life in their glebes and salaries, adding to these generally the emoluments of a classical school, found employment enough, in their farms and schoolrooms for the rest of the week, and devoted Sunday only to the edification of their flock, by service, and a sermon at their parish church. Their other pastoral functions were little attended to. Against this inactivity the zeal and industry of sectarian preachers had an open and undisputed field; and by the time of the revolution, a majority of the inhabitants had become dissenters from the established church, but were still OBLIGATED TO PAY CONTRIBUTIONS TO SUPPORT the Pastors of the minority. This unrighteous compulsion to maintain teachers of what they deemed religious errors was grievously felt during the regal government, and without a hope of relief. But the FIRST republican legislature which met in 76. was crowded with PETITIONS to ABOLISH this SPIRITUAL TYRANNY. These brought on the severest contests in which I have ever been engaged. Our great opponents were Mr. Pendleton & Robert Carter Nicholas, honest men, but zealous churchmen. The petitions were referred to the committee of the WHOLE HOUSE on the STATE of the country; and after desperate contests in that committee, almost daily from the 11th of October. to the 5th of December, we prevailed so far only as to REPEAL THE LAWS which RENDERED CRIMINAL the MAINTENANCE of any religious opinions, the forbearance of REPAIRING to church, or the exercise of any MODE of worship: and further, to exempt dissenters from CONTRIBUTIONS to the SUPPORT OF THE ESTABLISHED CHURCH; and to suspend, only until the next session LEVIES on the members of THAT church for the salaries of their own incumbents. For although the majority of our citizens were dissenters, as has been observed, a majority of the legislature were churchmen. Among these however were some reasonable and liberal men, who enabled us, on some points, to obtain feeble majorities. But our opponents carried in the general resolutions of the committee of Nov. 19. a declaration that religious assemblies OUGHT to be regulated, and that provision OUGHT to be made for continuing the SUCCESSION of the clergy, and superintending their conduct. And in the bill now passed was inserted an express reservation of the question Whether a GENERAL ASSESSMENT should not be ESTABLISHED BY LAW, on every one, to the support of the pastor of his choice; or whether ALL should be left to voluntary contributions; and on this question, debated at every session from 76 to 79 (some of our dissenting allies, having now secured their particular object, going over to the advocates of a general assessment) we could only obtain a suspension from session to session until 79. when the question against a general assessment was finally carried, and the establishment of the Anglican church entirely put down. In justice to the two honest but zealous opponents, who have been named I must add that although, from their natural temperaments, they were more disposed generally to acquiesce in things as they are, than to risk innovations, yet whenever the public will had once decided, none were more faithful or exact in their obedience to it. NOW take this to our Supreme Court Justices Congress and get this stinking seperation of church and government property removed from our country. In the future, theists will be ashamed to admit that they believe in any of the thousands of gods on offer (Zeus, Jesus, Yaweh, Thor, Allah, Vishnu, Joseph Smith, etc.) - in the same way other supernatural beliefs are ridiculed today (e.g. astrology, tarot cards, ouija boards, water divining, Benny Hinn, etc.)

    @Mike Driver, I am an atheist (and an agnostic, and a Humanist), but I am not full of hate and I am not trying to take over the nation. In fact, I love my neighbor just as you do - more so, possibly, because I don't discrimiate against him or her based on gender identity/sexuality, race, religion (or lack thereof), etc. This country was established with a secular constitution - a document that is (rightly so) the envy of the world. No one can agree on what "Christian values" are. Just about all indicators of a lower societal health (divorce rate, teen pregnancy, incarceration, drug abuse, etc.) correlate very strongly with higher religiousity/spirituality (e.g. the Southern States). Therefore, I suggest that we take a serious look at leveraging post-Enlightment tools such as reasoned deabte, science and technology, and our wonderful capacity of empathy for humans and other sentient animals as our "moral compass"... rather than Bronze Age ancient mythologies. No hospital could or would ever deny private citizens to bring in their own Bibles to a hospital. That would be simply fooslish, not to mention illegal. A quick Google search would show what really happened, and your misinformation about the truth does little to assure me that your area of focus (of mixing up religion and politics) is a big distraction from the real issues we face as a nation. I hope you take the time to make the correction, perhaps in a local newspaper. Thanks for your time.
