The House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and the House Foreign Affairs Asia and the Pacific Subcommittee will hold a joint hearing on China’s maritime disputes on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM.

“Given China’s growing assertiveness in its Near Seas and the scale of its military modernization, Tuesday’s joint hearing is an important opportunity to assess how recent developments impact U.S. interests in the region,” said Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04), Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and Co-Chairman of the Armed Services Committee’s Asia-Pacific Security Series. “Understanding Beijing’s recent efforts to undermine the regional status quo through coercive diplomacy is essential to developing a comprehensive U.S. strategy for promoting our interests in the region and reassuring allies of U.S. commitment to security in the Asia-Pacific.”
