Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04), Chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, will chair a Subcommittee hearing assessing the Navy’s 30 Year Shipbuilding Plan on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM.

“The Navy has been allowed to shrink to just 285 vessels, despite a bipartisan defense panel's estimate that it will take 346 ships to execute the service’s required missions. Admiral Greenert recently speculated that a 2020 force structure could reduce the force to as low as 255 ships. The Congressional Budget Office is even more pessimistic in their forecast of a 243 ship Navy,” Congressman Forbes said. “We have arrived at a fork in the road. One path keeps us on our current road that emboldens adversaries and leads to an increasingly isolated nation. I choose the other road that reverses defense sequestration and ensures our economic security is preserved with a strong national defense.”
