Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) today extended the deadline for those interested in obtaining a Congressional nomination to attend a Service Academy. Due to recent severe weather, the new deadline is November 5, 2012.
In order to be considered for nomination, students must be an American citizen and a legal citizen of Virginia’s Fourth District; must be at least 17 years old and not yet 23 years old as of July 1 of the year they enter the academy; must not be married or pregnant; and, must not have legal obligation to support children or other dependants. All eligible students must write a personal letter to Congressman Forbes that includes high school credentials and accomplishments.
Additionally, candidates must submit the following: a completed application for nomination; three letters of recommendation, one from a high school administrator or teacher; all school transcripts; their 2012-2013 class schedule; all college board scores; an essay, no longer than one typed page, on why the candidate desires to attend a U.S. Service Academy; and a resume of social or athletic activities and notable accomplishments.
Students from Virginia’s Fourth District interested in applying for admission to a service academy are encouraged to visit forbes.house.gov for full application instructions.
Nomination applications for the U.S. Service Academies must be submitted or postmarked by November 5, 2012 to the Chesterfield District Office of Congressman J. Randy Forbes. Please mail all nomination materials to:
