Randy Forbes (VA-04) announced today that he will hold a series of listening sessions with local Chesterfield business leaders and employees on Friday, February 10, 2012.  Congressman Forbes plans to meet with senior officials and employees at the General Dynamics call center in Chester, which could lose over 1,000 jobs due to a recent Administration proposal to eliminate an open bidding process for the 1-800-MEDIARE contract currently held by the company.  Congressman Forbes will also tour the Sabra Dipping Company plant in Chesterfield and hold a listening session with its leadership and employees to discuss ongoing economic challenges.

Since 2003, Vangent, now General Dynamics, has operated the 1-800-MEDICARE program in Chesterfield, providing information to beneficiaries and caregivers regarding their benefits.  Over 1,000 employees work in the call centers and the current contract, which is worth $2-3 billion, terminates in 2013.  Congressman Forbes has requested that Secretary Sebelius explain the decision to move from an open, competitive bidding process to a GSA schedule contract, by February 10, 2012.  More information is available here.

Sabra Dipping Company is the leading manufacturer of Mediterranean-style refrigerated dips and spreads.  The Chesterfield facility has been designed as a state-of-the-art 110,000 square foot that was intended to employ 260 people.  Chesterfield competed against locations in two other states with Sabra deciding to locate its new facility on 49 acres of the Ruffin Mall Industrial Park at the Walthall interchange off Interstate 95.

In addition, Congressman Forbes will also visit the Richmond Respiratory and Medical Supply to discuss problems with competitive bidding and Medicare and the impact of regulation on this oxygen supply business.
