Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) today called on Congress to pass substantive solutions to transform our economy before adjourning for the year. For the next three weeks, Forbes will outline a plan called “Three Weeks of Solutions to Transform Our Economy” detailing the steps Congress can take right now to fix the sluggish economy. 

“As we return this September to the last session of this Congress, we have a responsibility to enact substantive solutions that will produce a better economy for our families, our small business owners, and for the future of our nation. It is time that Congress stops dragging its feet on issues that are having a direct and personal impact on our families. If we simply focus the next three weeks on addressing the most critical issues to our economy, I am confident that we would lay a foundation for economic growth, new jobs, and a financially stable future for our families,” said Forbes.

Congressman Forbes outlined the following key issues Congress must address over the next three weeks to transform the economy:   

Week One: Get the federal government under control by addressing wasteful spending and removing the burden of unnecessary government regulations from American businesses.

Week Two: Create a comprehensive energy plan focused on increasing our domestic oil supply, increasing our conservation efforts, and investing in alternative energy sources to release our dependence on foreign oil.

Week Three: Put more money back in the wallets of hard-working middle-class families by simplifying the federal tax code, promoting small business, and improving access to education.

 “If we work together to address each of these issues over the next three weeks, we will be on track toward a better, more fruitful economy,” said Forbes. “I look forward to working with my colleagues over the next three weeks to develop meaningful, bipartisan solutions to these issues and to sharing my ideas with constituents who are being impacted every day by the sluggish economy.”
