Washington, D.C., May 15 - Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) recognized the exemplary service of the members of the United States Armed Forces, by supporting H. Res. 377, which commemorates Armed Forces Day on May 16, 2009.

“While we can never fully repay the men and women of our Armed Forces, we can honor them for their many sacrifices. We can say thank you for what they have done for freedom and what they have done for America. Armed Forces Day allows us a time to collectively celebrate and honor the members of our Armed Forces. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude for those who have bravely served this nation,” said Forbes.

Created on August 31, 1949, Armed Forces Day was established to serve as a single-day celebration to honor all branches and members of the Armed Forces. It was established to represent the unification of our armed forces following the creation of the Department of Defense. Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May and this year the theme is “United in Strength.” For more information about Armed Forces Day, click here.

H.Res.377 passed the House of Representatives on May 14, 2009. Congressman Forbes was a cosponsor of the legislation.

As Ranking Member on the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee, Congressman Forbes is a strong advocate for members of our Armed Forces. He has been awarded the highest civilian honor from both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy for his contribution to the advancement of our military.
